AJHS Sports Update

Julia Scott —

HIGHLIGHTS:

Cross Country - North Harbour Intermediate Zone Day

On Wednesday this week 26 students attended the North Harbour Intermediate Cross Country Zone Day held at Warkworth Showgrounds.

Unfortunately due to illness a number of students could not attend, but all the students that did attend represented AJHS superbly.

A special congratulations to the following students that had top 10 placings for their event:

  • Nyah Slade - 3rd place Year 7 girls

  • Kylie Lu - 5th place Year 7 girls

  • Brooke McCabe - 7th place Year 8 girls

We also had five Year 7 girls finish in the top 20, which is a fantastic result from a start list of 102 runners. Congratulations to Nyah Slade (3rd), Kylie Lu (5th), Lexi Biffin (13th), Seanna Govender (18th) and Emma Oh (20th).

Netball North Harbour Zone Day

In Week 2 we attended both the girls and boys Year 7 and 8 netball zone days.

All four teams enjoyed the opportunity to play in a whole day tournament, and it was really beneficial for both our Year 7 and 8 girls teams.

A massive congratulations to our Year 7 girls netball team who placed in third place in the Year 7 A grade. This is an awesome achievement.

Congratulations to the following players:

Lexi Biffin, Mieke Bosman, Candice Dixon, Isla Hawkes, Emma Oh, Charlotte Paterson, Archer Pauga, Nyah Slade, Kayla Yee-Joy and coach Alex Wansink.

A big thank you to our student umpires, Karenza Taljaard and Madi Corlett for their efforts over both days, and to Liv Mitchell, TJ Muller and Claudia Reyland for assisting with our duty at the boys zone day.

Amy Wang - Badminton

Congratulations to Year 8 student, Amy Wang recently winning the NZ Under 15 singles and doubles badminton national championships. An outstanding achievement.

Auckland College Climbing Series

On Sunday we had the fourth and final event of the Auckland College Climbing Series. We had a team of 12 students compete throughout the year. AJHS placed 13th school overall. A special mention to our top 20 finishers in their age group for the series, Isabel Petersen 5th, Cameron van Huyssteen 15th and Ozzy Petersen 17th, as well as Storm Waye who was awarded the most improved Junior Girl of the season.

Last Sunday's event was especially successful as our team received the sportsmanship award at the event. Congratulations to all of our climbers on a fantastic series, and for upholding our AJHS values whilst competing.
