Today, we finish a week of sunshine and learning opportunities with our mufti day to support those families who have suffered severe financial impact from floods. Our school donation will be given to the Red Cross. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

This past week, we have witnessed another example of our community coming together for one of our big school calendar events - the AJHS Summer Gala. Whether you donated baking items, chocolate, 2nd hand goods, volunteered your time, or attended in person, this gala brought us together. Thank you to all parents, staff, students, and stall holders who contributed too and made this event a success for our school. The money raised from this event will reinstate our school playground.

As we conclude Week 6 of Term One, most of our students are creating a positive and respectful culture meeting our school expectations. However, a few of our students are not. Here are some reminders of expectations on students:

Students are expected to speak to others with courtesy and respect, including peers, and staff.
Students must be in full AJHS uniform. If they are wearing any alternative item of clothing, they must have a signed and dated parent note to give their Whanau leader for a uniform pass.
Once a student arrives at school, they are expected to stay on site. Students mustn't leave the school to go to the local shops.
All students who are late (i.e. arriving at school after the 8.40am bell) must report to the student reception before going to class. This is to ensure we keep a track of attendance and student safety.
In accordance with legislation, our entire school and boundary is Smoke and Vape Free; any students with a vape in their possession, or caught using one, will face serious consequences.
Please be aware that a group of our students who are being dropped to, or get off the bus at our local BP petrol station are conducting themselves in an unlawful manner. We are working very closely with the BP staff to ensure that our students make the right decisions and that their staff are being respected.
Students who carelessly or wilfully damage school, staff or other student’s property or equipment will be asked to meet the cost of the repairs or replacement.

I am very aware that some of these points are very confronting, but sadly we do have some different and extreme behaviour from some students. This will not be tolerated at our school for the health and safety of all our students and staff. We would appreciate it if parents discuss these points with your students as this helps reinforce our expectations.

Please note: If there have been any changes to the custodial arrangements, change of address, change of telephone number, change of emergency contact numbers, or any other changes, we would be very grateful if you would inform us as soon as possible so our records can be corrected - office@ajhs.school.nz

If your child has forgotten a school item, please drop it off at the Student Desk (located in the Main Admin block) and not to your child's classroom. To this end, at the conclusion of the school day, please do not wait for students in their atriums or classrooms - please wait outside the school grounds. Your help with this is appreciated.
