Our Wild Backyard

Recently Year 9 students from the Environmental Science option class visited a tributary of Lucas Creek close to the school, and tested water quality with the help of Auckland Council staff.

Students learnt how to measure phosphate, nitrate and dissolved oxygen levels in the water. They collected data about the clarity and acidity of the water, and identified indicator species living in the stream.

We are happy to report that the quality of water in our local water way is pretty good, meaning a decent range of freshwater species survive here.
