Miller Road School Trip by AJHS

Talking Tech - Miller Road Fragrance Trip

This year our second semester Year 10 Design and Visual Communication students have been undertaking a design brief where they develop the bottle, packaging and scent for a celebrity fragrance. As a part of their learning we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit Miller Road Fragrance Studio in Devonport, to learn the processes around creating a scent for an original perfume.

The team at Miller Road were extremely accommodating and knowledgeable. Owner Treena, ensured all the students left with a beautiful 30ml bottle of their own custom scent. During the process Frances and Treena taught the students how the different scents are created. We learnt that some scents need to be created synthetically and others are naturally extracted oils. Learners built their fragrances identifying top notes, heart notes and base notes that they wanted their fragrance to embody. They tested and trialled how the different smells combined, and edited their outcomes into a commercial quality fragrance scent.

They were able to have their fragrances labelled with their individual fragrance brand names before smelling each other's creations and taking them home. The students found this experience invaluable to understanding the design and manufacturing process of a perfume and it brought their class learning to the real world.

We would like to thank Miller Road Fragrance for being so obliging and generous to our learners. If you would like to experience this fantastic experience for yourself please check out their website below.
