Sports Highlights
College Netball
AJHS had 4 teams participate in the Netball North Harbour College Season, and what a fantastic season it was, with AJHS 1 going through undefeated all year and finishing the year as college grade 5 champions. A fantastic group of Year 10 students, who have come a long way with their netball. Congratulations Grace, Claire, Zoe, Nicole, Abby, Caitlyn, Ruby, Tayla and Cassandra. AJHS 2 finished 5th in college grade 7, AJHS 3 finished 3rd and AJHS 4 finished 8th in college grade 14.
A special thank you to our coaches and managers, Megan, Alex, Sally, Jo, Trish, Nikki, Trina and Diane for your efforts over the season. Also thank you to our amazing umpires.
Auckland Interzone Cross Country
Congratulations to Year 7 student Emily Glasson who competed at the Auckland Intermediate Interzone Cross Country Championships last week. Emily raced a challenging course at Muriwai Beach and finished an impressive 55th out of 85 competitors. Well done Emily!
Sports Achievements
Violet Jones - North Island Secondary Schools Equestrian Championships
Recently Year 8 student Violet Jones competed in the North Island Secondary Schools Equestrian Championships held in Taupo. Violet came first in the 65 Arena Eventing on her horse The Midnight Shadow. She then placed 3rd and 6th in the Level 1 dressage tests on TheMidnight Shadow, and 6th and 7th on Golden Shadow.
On the second day Violet and The Midnight Shadow placed 4th in the final level 1 dressage test, and with Golden Shadow placed 7th.
Violet and The Midnight Shadow won 3rd place overall individual level 1 combination and Violet and Golden Shadow won 6th place overall individual level 1 combination - this was for the results across all three level 1 dressage tests.
They also had a great result in the indoor 60-70 speed jumping classes, Golden Shadow placing 8th and The Midnight Shadow placing 10th.
This is an outstanding achievement with there being over 50 students involved in this event and students go right up to Year 13.
Phia Hearley - Mounted Games
Recently Year 8 student Phia Hearley took part in the first mounted games of the season, held in the Waikato. Phia was competing in the Under 15 age group and finished in 3rd place. Well done Phia, we look forward to seeing more results as the season progresses.
