Intermediate Football Zone Day

Over the last two weeks AJHS have had four of our Intermediate football teams attend their respective North Harbour zone days.

First up was the Year 8 girls which was a huge success, with our team placing 3rd out of the 16 schools entered. After finishing top of the pool, we crossed over to play Northcote beating them 1.0. In our semi-final against Murray's Bay we drew 1.1. It was a penalty shoot out to determine the winner, and we narrowly lost. We did well to bounce back from the upset loss to beat Belmont School 2-1 for third place.

Next up was the Year 7 girls. Another great day out made up of a mix of experienced and brand new players. The girls started off in a tough pool with Northcross and Murrays Bay but then crossed over with Takapuna Normal and won that game to face Wairau in the plate final. The girls put out their best performance yet, finishing 5-0 to us. It was great to see the girls work together, play a range of positions and get stuck in. Definitely some football players in the making in this lot.

Followed by the Year 7 boys. The boys started off in a tough pool with Northcross, Birkdale and Northcote. Which ended in Mr Callon's first ever 3 way penalty shoot out as three of the four teams were on identical results. The boys stepped up and came out second to seed into the 9th and 10th playoff against Wairau. A great game saw the boys take the win 2-0. A special mention to Caeden Hill who scored both cracking goals. All in all a great day out for the boys.

Last but not least the Year 8 boys, who played some fantastic football finishing 2nd in pool play with a narrow 1 nil loss to Northcross. They won their quarter final and then faced Northcote in the semi final, going down in a tight match. The boys then had another tight encounter against Northcross B, going down but finishing in a very creditable 4th place.

Well done boys, and a big thank you to Mr Callon and Student Coaches Jaidon Vahed and Toby Skelton.
