Mandarin Classes Celebrate NZ Chinese Language Week & Moon Festival

This week was New Zealand Chinese Language Week (NZCLW).

Sponsored by the China Cultural Centre, AJHS Y7 -Y10 Mandarin classes and the Friday Programme class celebrated with Red Panda AOTEAROA Wushu Academy’s head coach Camillia Zhu, who taught our students Chinese martial arts, Kungfu fan dancing and self-defence strategies.

She also introduced the history of Chinese martial arts as one of the Olympic Games sports, and showed students some typical Chinese martial arts practice weapons such as broad sword, straight sword, spear and cudgel.

To further celebrate Chinese Language Week, we invited Wendy and Polly, artists from Painting Pen Art School, to teach our students Chinese calligraphy and brush painting. We learned how to draw a jade rabbit (according to the myths and legends of the Moon Festival), and had a go at brush painting Chinese characters: 中秋节。
