On Wednesday 31 August, two of our Year 7 and 8 bands, Nexus and 5-second rule, headed off to Auckland Girls Grammar to participate in the annual Bandquest rock band competition - the North Shore heats.

Along with students from other local schools, they took to the stage with flair, great musicianship and excellent teamwork.

Congratulations to 5-second rule (Jackson Smith, Mackenzie Keeler, Ava Henderson, Payton McDonald, Oliver Qu, Lars McLeay and Keyla Camacho) who won first place, while Lucy Singleton and Carah Dowland from Nexus (Lucy Singleton, Carah Dowland, Ollie Preston-Thomas, Jeremy Stewart and Blake Hitchcock) won Best Vocals of the night.

The guest act for the evening, who performed while the judges deliberated, were also a band made up of past and present AJHS students, Where’s Jai?. After winning the North Shore finals of Rockquest a couple of months ago, they were invited to headline the Bandquest show. Where’s Jai? performed five original songs and gained a whole new fan base in the process.

Well done to all 3 bands, who did our school proud!
