One of the delightful things about being at a school at the end of the year is the opportunity to acknowledge the many students who have achieved or exceeded their personal goals for the year. The student-led Celebrations of Excellence at Albany Senior High School were a wonderful reminder of how our students have overcome the challenges of COVID to achieve highly in all aspects of their school life.

If you have spent any time around Albany Senior High School, you will have heard the three significant words from our vision; Nurture, Inspire and Empower. At the three end of year Celebrations of Learning, we saw many examples of how ASHS students live and breathe this vision.

The Year 11 and Year 12 Celebrations of Learning were hosted by students from that year level, who all spoke eloquently about what ‘Excellence’ meant to them. As well as acknowledging all the students who had gained Excellence in individual subjects, the outstanding scholar for each year level was also announced. Congratulations to:

The Premier Prizegiving was hosted by the 2022 Head students, who highlighted their most precious memories of their three years at ASHS. The acknowledgements started by thanking those students who had made a significant contribution to the life of the school, followed by congratulating those students who gained Excellence in individual subjects. Our Careers Advisor, Craig Dyason, then announced the recipients of the $296,100.00 worth of tertiary scholarships awarded to ASHS students this year, and then it was time for our Principal, Claire Amos, to award the ASHS Gold recipients for 2022.

All three events truly celebrated the student achievement at ASHS. Claire then announced the 2023 Head students. Six of the eight Head Students are alumni of AJHS and, in their interviews, they all spoke fondly of the leadership opportunities they were given while attending Albany Junior High School. Congratulations to:

The final Celebration of Learning closed with the 2022 Head Students, with the members of the Māori and Pasifika Council performing a Haka to honour and acknowledge their teachers who had supported them through three years of schooling during the time of COVID.
