School Sports Highlights
Badminton - North Harbour Intermediate Zone Day Success
Our Intermediate Boys Badminton team have had an outstanding season, and they finished the school season last week with more success at the North Harbour Intermediate Badminton Zone Day.
In the boys Singles event Jason Tong backed up his NZ AIMS Games title winning the zone day title. Justin Wang also had a great singles tournament going down by one point in the semi final.
In the doubles it was an awesome sight having both AJHS pairs in the final. The team of Jason and Justin were the overall Champions and we enjoyed an outstanding effort by our Year 7 boys Jack Li and Lawrence Lu who finished runners up.
Well done boys, you have had a fantastic year of school badminton.
Auckland Secondary Schools Diving Champions
Excitingly, AJHS has been crowned the Auckland Secondary Schools Diving Champions for the 11th year in a row! Additionally, our Year 7 and 8 team came runners up in the Intermediate competition.
In the secondary school event, Riley Oxenham finished in 2nd place in the 15-16 age group (diving up an age group), and Olivia Fox won gold in the 13-14 age group.
To gain the overall title, our top 4 divers were Riley, Olivia, Jolan Ratsdorf and Latisha Willems.
In the Intermediate event, Carmen Judd finished in third place in the girls event, and Torben Walmsley finished in third place in the boys event, with their combined score gaining them 2nd overall.
A big congratulations to all of our divers who competed on the day. For some of them this was their first ever competition.
College Girls Volleyball Super League
Congratulations to our College Girls Volleyball team on finishing in 6th place from 20 teams in the Harbour Volleyball Girls Super League Competition. This week the team is competing in the College Sport Auckland Junior Volleyball Champs at the Pulman Arena. We wish them the best of luck and hope they have an amazing tournament.
Special thanks to Mrs Morkel for her time coaching the team again this year.
School Sports Achievements
Diving New Zealand Team Selection
We have a fantastic group of students achieving great things at an amazing level. In addition to Riley Oxenham being named in the NZ Team to compete at Junior Worlds, Year 10 student Olivia Fox has been named in the NZ Junior Diving Team to travel to Montreal and compete in the Camo International event.
Additionally Year 8 student Carmen Judd has been recently selected as a member of the Diving New Zealand Team to compete at the 2022 Australian School Games.
All 3 students head off soon for their respective events, and we wish them all the best as they get to experience international competition and travel.
Hawaiian International Water Polo Tournament
Congratulations to the following students who have been selected in North Harbour Water Polo Teams to attend the Hawaiian tournament in August next year.
16 and Under Team: Jordan van Huyssteen
14 and Under Team: Ashleigh Fox and MacKenzie Keeler
It's fantastic to see the international opportunities are opening up again, and we wish you all the best in your preparations and for this exciting experience.
Cricket
Congratulations to Year 10 student Caitlyn Mills on being selected as a member of the North Harbour Under 17 District Cricket team. Caitlyn and her team will be playing in a tournament from the 13th to the 15th of December 2022. Good luck Caitlyn, we wish you all the best.
Motocross
Congratulations to Year 8 student Ruby Leech on her recent performance in the 2022 AON NZ Junior Motocross Champs. Ruby does motocross every weekend, she travels around the North Island and competes in double classes - Junior Women's and the boys classes.
In the recent 2022 NZ Junior Champs, Ruby finished in 2nd place.
Congratulations Ruby, we look forward to seeing what's next for you.
