Sports & Cultural Events
Many of our extra curricular programmes are in partnership with the community and help to nurture the sporting and cultural needs of our students.
CASAFEST
CASAFEST (Canterbury Area Schools Association Festival) is an annual festival hosted in April by one of the Canterbury Area Schools where a team of 40 students from each school participate in a full range of sports and cultural activities over 3 days. Activities can include; various sports codes but has also included Touch Rugby, Ki o Rahi, Orienteering, Hockey, Technology Challenge, Food Tech Challenge, Quiz, Talent Quest, Maths Challenges, Top Team to name a few. Akaroa hosted CASAFEST in 2012 and 2018.
Local Events
We participate in a number of regular events throughout the year. These include local competition with the other Banks Peninsula schools – Little River, Duvauchelle, and Okains Bay.
Local Sports Clubs
Many of our students join established local sports clubs for their leisure activities including the Banks Peninsula Rugby Club, Banks Peninsula Netball Club, Akaroa Touch Rugby Club, Akaroa Sailing Club, Little River Gymnastics and others.

Combined Country High Schools Tournaments
As part of the Country High Schools and Canterbury Area Schools networks Akaroa participates in a competitions and tournaments including CHS Athletics, Tennis, Swimming, Indoor and Outdoor Tournaments. These lead into regional secondary school championships.

Regional Representative Events
For higher performing sportspeople there is the opportunity to trial for the Top of South Representative Team (TOSI). The codes within the TOSI team include rugby, soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball and ki o rahi. The TOSI team consists of approximately 100 area school students from the top of the south island who attend the NZAS National Tournament in July and compete against the 3 other nationwide areas.
