We are halfway through the year!

Simon Green —

Another action packed term has passed. Time for a break and we will catch our breath before another busy term ahead. Check out our amazing Cross Country runners above - they represented Amberley School at the Canterbury Champs last week.

Smile and Wave

This term was all about looking after ourselves and showing kindness. We completed the Keeping Ourselves Safe unit and our schoolwide objective was: "students will develop skills and attitudes that enhance their interactions and relationships with others." We had a real focus on teaching children to be kind (opening doors for others, asking 'how are you?' etc). Have you noticed a difference at home?

Making Waves

Next term, as you will see from the school wide plan below, is all about the arts. Students will have opportunities to express creativity with artistic skill - it's our production term after all. 12th and 13th of September have been booked for this - pop it on your calendar now. As always, we rely a lot on parent support (costumes etc) so keep an eye on the hub newsletters for more info.

Also next term we will have our second round of reports. You will remember we had goal setting reports at the end of term one. This year we are not having 'mid year' reports or 'end of year' reports, but a full report at the end of term 3, and optional parent interviews at the start of Term 4. We feel that this is the best way to support your child's learning - often the end of the year is too late to find out and make a difference (and report comments are forgotten over the summer break).

Staff Changes

We farewell Mark Taylor from Amberley School this week. Mark has been with us since the start of 2017, and has taken leave from our school to go with his family to teach in China. Make sure you come along to Amberley Idol on Friday - this will be the last chance to farewell Mark (seeing as we don't have assembly this week).  We wish the Taylor family all the best for their adventure abroad.

We welcome Campbell Harding to full time teaching in Moana for the rest of the year. Campbell has been teaching a lot already this term, and he will take over from Mr Tee. If you didn't read Campbell's introductory Hail article, you can check it out here.

We also welcome Aisling O'Connor to the team. Aisling (pronounced Ash-ling) will be teaching two days in Mrs S's class (Deputy Principal release) and also a day in Mr Harding's class (Beginning Teacher release). Aisling is an experienced teacher, and taught at Waipara School last year. She also taught for 8 years at North Loburn School and is looking forward to joining our team.

New Students

Our school is growing, and you might have noticed lots of new faces at Amberley School. This term we welcomed:

Thomas McDonald, Maggie Sellers, Sharly-Star Taei,  Ryan Schoeman, and Jara Padang to Maungatere Hub

Acacia Stevens and India Cowie-Smith to Te Ngahere Hub

Ashton Whitley, Sophie Newby and Jayden Schoeman to Kowai Hub

Dakota Newby and Zachary Cowie-Smith to Moana Hub

Great to have lovely new students at our amazing school!

Happy Holidays

Have a great break everyone. Be sure to check out the Kidsfest events with your children http://www.kidsfest.co.nz/ and we look forward to seeing you all again next term.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
