EPro8 Challenge at Kaiapoi North School

Trina Shepherd —

We are in the final! Team: Amberley 1 Category: Year 7-8 Location: Belfast School Date: Monday 26-Jun-2017 05:00 PM. We wish the team all the best.

Below is part of the brief we received once Mr Green had enrolled all our teams. The teams will each be based at a workstation. This workstation contains a generous variety of easy to use equipment, including aluminium extrusion, brackets, gears, pulleys, motors, axles and electronics. This equipment has been specially designed for the EPro8 Challenge. It is very easy to use and allows the students to focus on the problem solving aspects of the challenges.

The teams will compete to finish a variety of science and technology based challenges. There will be four challenges with each challenge covering a different aspect of physics or technology. Each challenge is made of parts - some are easy and some more challenging. The more difficult challenges are worth more points. I have attached the challenges used in 2016, with examples of what the teams achieved.

Each challenge has black and white criteria which teams need to achieve to get the points. It also contains "Hints". This is the learning and theory behind the challenge. Teams can use this or completely ignore it. It's up to them.

Students will choose which challenges appeal to them. There is not enough time to finish all the challenges.

Each of the challenges is designed to be visually stunning, something that looks great in photos, and something the kids are very proud of completing.

Congratulations to all the Amberley Competitors and to our Year 7/8 Winners who are through to the next round. Brynn Hingston, Oliver Mitchell, Jordan Bradley and Tyler Hingston.  Thanks to our supporters and organisers Whaea Suzi and Mr Green too.
