Amberley School vision - Through our example, efforts and encouragement ….. our students will develop knowledge, attitudes and skills which enable them to be successful and contribute positively to their community.
Last week room 9, 10 & 11 went to Wainui for their annual camp. It was a delight to hear such positive comments from parents as they arrived on return to school. Thank you to all the teachers, parents who volunteer their time and of course if you helped with transport too. It sounds like lots of fun was had by all. These wonderful experiences take a huge amount of organisation and it is not possible without the support of you all. I spoke to lots of children on Monday and it sounds as though lots of rest was needed over the weekend.
Recently it has been noticed that there are several children and adolescents playing in our grounds after school. Although this is allowed, there appears to be a group who are not respecting the property that belongs to the school and is provided for our children. Most concerning is that our road patrol signs are being removed from the grounds as well as our junior playground jungle gyms being uplifted. We are taking this matter further, but I do ask that you support our school if you notice any events happening later in the evenings that look suspicious, please report this to the police a.s.a.p. and our school.
The Kowai sporting event was held on Monday evening at the local pool. It was well organised and supported by our families and friends in Amberley. Congratulations to all our competitors. There was some finishes almost too close to call. If your child has made it through to the next round at the Canterbury event, Mr C will be in touch soon. Thank you to everyone for your support and to our children.
This week we had two grandparents come into the office to share with us that they are enjoy coming into our school and participating with events they are invited to. Thank you for sharing these positive comments with us. There are lots of great things happening in our school and teachers are also sharing with families all the positives and 'good things' going on.
Our school has some 'secret spotters' around the playground. Each week in assembly students are acknowledged and recognised in front of the school for showing our values at Amberley School.
te Ngahere hub had their Mystery Walk planned for Tuesday. Sadly the rain clouds came and the heavy drizzle meant they could only venture out for part of the walk. Thank you to all the support offered with coming to join the children and their teacher for this adventure.
On Monday evening the seniors had the Kowai Swimming Sports at our local pool. This was organised by Sefton School with the Kowai Cluster of schools. The email arrived on Friday to confirm the swimmers who had made it through. Thank you Mr Clemens for staying back on Friday after camp to notify families who made it to this level. Mr Clemens now has the confirmed results and will notify you if your child is to go through to the next stage. The Kowai certificates and celebrations will happen with a senior syndicate assembly, not the whole school.
Welcome to our Student Councilors for 2016, Zac, Charlotte, Lily, Callum, Charlotte. R, Lotty, Tyler, Janayha, Ryan, Alfie & Caitlyn. In our next assembly Mrs S will be awarding badges to our leaders and councilors.
Mr Simon Green will be officially welcomed on Monday 4th April to Amberley School. We will welcome Simon with a powhiri. A karanga (calling) will invite Simon as a visitor(manuhiri) to join our people (tangata whenua) with a karanga, singing a waiata, performing a haka and the girls will be demonstrating the poi with a waiata. Loburn School will reciprocate this with a waiata. Words of welcome will be shared by our board chair and then greetings will follow. If you can make it at 11:00 a.m, then please join us.
