Aisling O'Connor — Aug 9, 2018

Kia ora. Tena koutou. My name is Aisling O’Connor (It’s an Irish name and pronounced Ashling) and I’m teaching in Moana hub for the next two terms.

I am excited to be part of the Amberley / Torotoroa team, and I’m enjoying getting to know the students in Rooms 10 and 11.   I teach in Room 11 on Tuesday for Campbell Harding and in Room 10 on Wednesday and Thursday for Trina Shepherd.

I’m an experienced primary teacher, having taught for the last 9 years in North Canterbury schools. I’ve run Enviroschools and led education for sustainability programmes. Having completed a degree in Spanish, I subsequently lived in Spain and Mexico. I am now enjoying the opportunity to use my Spanish again in Room 10 and 11 through teaching Spanish language and culture. The students have already created some wonderful presentations on the Spanish speaking countries.

For art in Room 10 students are developing personal symbols that visually represent them. This will accompany their mihi/pepeha, and decorate their individual waka paddles. You might like to discuss your family tree/whakapapa and significant places with your child?

Living at Leithfield Beach reignited my love of the sea. I enjoy beach walks, swimming in the ocean and growing vegetables (ideally not in sandy soil!) I love the Hurunui and all the recreational opportunities available in this area. My partner and I share a love of the outdoors and go tramping and camping during the term breaks. I also enjoy yoga and am part of a local singing group.

It’s great to be at Amberley School. Please feel free to pop in and say hello.
