WHAT CAN I DO TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE WHEN GAMING ONLINE?

No platform will ever be 100% safe, so it’s important to take a proactive approach when your child is online.

    • Talk to your child about your expectations about how they should behave online
    • Check in with your child regularly about the types of games they’re playing
    • Get to know the games your child is playing – even better, ask your child to show you how the game works
    • Get familiar with the parental controls available and explain why you’ve decided to use them
    • Keep passwords for your console and its account safe and ensure they are strong
    • Talk to your child about the type of information they need to keep private – e.g. where they live, the school they attend, their real name etc.
    • Make a plan about what kids should do if they come across unusual behaviour and how to identify it
    • Learn how to report players or profiles and teach your child how to do the same
    • Contact Netsafe on 0508 NETSAFE for further help and advice
