Writing Competition
Recently the Piwakawaka children wrote stories to be entered in the Hurunui Schools' Writing Competition. Only two stories from the Year 2 children and two stories from the Year 3 children were selected to be entered.
The brief was to write a narrative story about a visitor coming to town...
Here are the stories that were entered in the competition:
The Secret Town Spy. By Ruby Wesley, Year 2
One day when the kids were walking to school they saw a new boy. Meanwhile one of the kids Mum and Dad and baby spotted a person wearing a black cape. The person was a spy and the new boy at school was his son. Back at school the teacher was introducing the new boy and the teacher said, “This boy is new to our town and is staying at a motel and I am his Auntie.” Well the new boys Dad was a robber. Meanwhile the robber Dad had gone to the museum and for bad luck it was open. Robber Dad went to the jewellery room. Suddenly someone burst through the door. Robber Dad darted behind the cabinet. Through the door came a policeman with a pitch black cat with a collar on the collar it said The Secret Town. Meanwhile the little kids Mum and Dad were at the pet store to buy some dogs. Back at school the teacher had turned on the school radio and it said, “Buy dogs robber Dad is back!” Soon it was home time the new boy went to the motel. Robber Dad was not there. He was at the museum being arrested by the police. All of a sudden a kid came in. It was the new boy. “Stop!” he shouted that’s my Dad! But it was too late. While that was happening the Mum and Dad were talking to the teacher and they said, “That new boy you have he has a robber Dad.” The teacher squeaked and said, “Tell the Principal and he will tell the motel owner to tell the police.” So off they went. Meanwhile the new boy was now doing his Dad’s job. He stole gold and a red ring and then the police came and took him away and put him in jail. The End
The Doctors By Maeve Baxter, Year 2
Once upon a time a visitor came to Amberley. She met at the doctors. When she met one of the other doctors ?” she said, “I will go here. OK.” She went out to the waiting room. She said, “Can I please have Lily?” So Lily went with her. She said, “What is the matter with you Lily?” She said, “I need a vaccination.” So the visiting doctor messed it up she chuckled to herself. She put magic stuff in it. Then she put the needle in Lily. Then Lily went home. A couple of weeks later Lily got very sick. Then Ruby said, “I need some medicine.” This time the doctor put stuff that wouldn’t make Ruby better. She got even more sick. Then she went back to another doctor and he gave her proper medicine and soon Ruby was all better.
The Twenty Evil Monkeys By Amber Stanley, Year 3
One day a building got built and it was a zoo and it was a monkey zoo. and it was a brand new zoo. There were twenty monkeys. The monkeys were eighteen girls and two boys. The eighteen girls names were Rosy, Rosetta, Ruby, Maeve, Emma, Kate, Nikita, Lily, Greta, Amelia, Briella, Violet, Eva, Rachael, Amber, Kristal, Jade, Laura, Lucy, and Bea and the two boys were Max and Fin. they were nice monkeys and one day a wizard cast a spell on the monkeys and then the boss monkey said chew the cages and listen to the King and Queen monkey. The king said destroy the village and New Zealand. They started destroying the village and New Zealand. They destroyed schools and houses and paddocks too. they killed baby Lily and there was a spell to stop the monkeys from destroying the world. You have to find a big lilac flower and salt and a troll’s sneeze, a bowl and a smasher to make a big soup. give each monkey a drink and they will be back to normal so the villagers set off to find the lilac salt a trolls sneeze a bowl and a smasher and five minutes later they found everything they needed and came back to the village and made the soup. They gave it to the monkeys and broke the spell. One of the villagers called the police and the police caught the wizard and took his wand away and he went to the jail. The end.
The Murderer by Fletcher Batty-Bean, Year 3
Once upon a time there was a town. There was a kid named Charlie. He lived with his dad. One night there was a mystery visitor. He knocked on Charlie’s door when Charlie opened the door he got stabbed in the chest. The murderer’s name was Deadpool. Charlie’s dad killed Deadpool’s brother so Deadpool wanted revenge. So he picked Charlie up and put him in a sack and then he put Charlie’s dad’s house on fire. Charlie’s dad died in the fire. Deadpool put Charlie in a truck and took him to a cliff. And jumped off the cliff with Charlie. It was high tide and Deadpool drowned in the sea. A shark ate Deadpool’s body. The shark only left his head. A few months later there was a couple walking their dog. And they saw Deadpool’s head washed up on the Beach. So they called the police. Then the police tried to find out who the man was. So they put Deadpool’s head in a coffin and put him in the grave yard.
