Generous Donation for Amberley School
North Canterbury Farm Forestry secretary Gary Fleming presented Amberley School with a cheque for $4765.50 today.
This is the result of proceeds from the sale of trees on a block of council-owned land on the north boundary of the Kowai river. The trees were planted in the 1990s, with the idea being that the proceeds of the sale will be shared among the three schools in the district. (Leithfield, Broomfield and Amberley). The plantation was wind damaged in 2013, about 8-9 years from it’s full potential. The trees were cleared and sold with profits going to the schools. Over $8000 was shared between the schools (allocated per pupil basis). Gary also spoke to the students at assembly about the importance of trees in their lives - he shared a wealth of information about the many uses of wood products. Gary also presented a rare Chinchilla White Gum tree to the school.
The Amberley School community is delighted with this generous donation. We would like to use these proceeds towards long term environmental projects at Amberley School.
