Playing Rugby for North Canterbury
In July we had an opportunity to trial for the NC U12 Representative Teams. The trials were held in Amberley. There were lots of boys who were picked to go and trial from all over North Canterbury.
We played a game for about an hour, and had a training session led by a coach before the actual game. They called out your name and you were given either an Ohoka jersey or North Canterbury to play a game. My name was called and I had to wear the NC jersey and after half time I was told to swap jerseys. The game continued with positions being swapped on occasions.
When the game ended the selector told us that we would either an email or a phone call on the 17th of July and if you didn’t hear, then you were not selected. My mum received an email to say I made the team. I felt real good about that and was pretty happy.
Now we have a tournament running and we have to play other Rep teams from Christchurch. Our first game was on Sunday 30 July at Kaiapoi. I’m feeling nervous about this because this team went to Australia and won the finals.
