Refuse and Recycling Arrangements for Christmas and New Year

Over Christmas and New Year, refuse and recycling in Amberley, Amberley Beach, Leithfield and Leithfield Beach will be collected on the following days.

· Tuesday 20th December.

· Wednesday 28th December – one day later than normal.

· Wednesday 4th January – one day later than normal.  

 Only official Hurunui Council refuse and recycling bags will be collected.

Refuse and recycling bags must be securely tied and left at the kerbside boundary by 8am, as collection times may differ to normal. The crew will not return to collect bags, which are placed out late.

Refuse bags must not exceed 15kg in weight.

Bags split prior to the crew’s arrival and non-official bags are not Council’s responsibility to clean up.

The following clean recyclables are accepted via the collections and must be placed loose in an official recycling bag.

Newspapers, magazines, office waste paper and telephone directories.

Cardboard, greetings cards, junk mail, envelopes and egg boxes (excess cardboard can be flattened and tied in secure bundles for collection)

Food, drink and pet food cans.

Plastic bottles (no lids), plastic containers and carrier bags.

Glass bottles must not be put in recycling bags; but can be recycled via Council’s transfer stations for free.

Official refuse and recycling bags can be purchased at Amberley Four Square, Amberley Library and Amberley transfer station.

Over Christmas and New Year, all transfer stations will remain closed on public holidays; otherwise normal opening hours apply.
