Cockabully capture

Sharon Heeman —

Te Ngahere's river trip was on Thursday, with a little drizzle but with lots of determination!

We were hoping to see some eels in our eel trap but we did have some cute cockabullies - 6 in total!

The night before the teachers and principal set eel and fish traps with old meat and maramite to see what species live in our Kowai river. This expedition was very funny and we had many laughs along the way.  Thursday morning was our outing,  it drizzled but that did not stop us.

So many discussions and excitement captured our thirst of wonderings.

Maybe next time  during different months of the year, time there maybe other species?

The cockabullies were released back into the river and had a happily ever after ending.

A fabulous trip by a hub of enthusiasts about our local waterways.
