Making Spelling Meaningful and Valid.

The research suggests that random spelling lists do not improve spelling outcomes for 90+% of students so the question remains... What does make a difference with regards to spelling achievement?

What we are doing in Room 11 is filtering through out writing books, identifying spelling errors, highlighting them, finding the correct spelling from a dictionary or device and listing these words into our word-study book read to learn. We will learn these words (words we naturally use in our day to day writing) via fun spelling games and activities. We will collect data and follow the progress along the way.
