Vaiaso o Le Gagana Samoa- Samoan Language Week!

Check out how Kowai Hub celebrated Samoan Language week this year!

Talofa lava! On the week of May the 25th, Kowai Hub did something pretty special... We spent the week learning about Samoa! A culture that is very close to Whaea Mik's heart and made her incredibly proud to share with our very cool hub.

Each morning we learnt a new phrase of the day and discovered new learning about the culture, the language and especially the food! Our tamariki were so engaged throughout the sharing of stories/ knowledge and loved to ask many questions while they were making new connections.

To celebrate the end of Samoan Language week our hub created a feast! Cooking; Masi Samoa (Coconut biscuits) Chop Suey (Traditional Samoan noodle dish) and Pani Popo (Coconut buns... Whaea Mik's favourite!!). We were lucky enough to have the queen of Chop Suey Kelly (Mik's mum) to come in and support Whio while they made the most delicious Chop Suey for our hub!

On a personal note; Watching our tamariki and teachers immerse themselves in the Samoan culture warmed my heart and made me feel really lucky to be part of hub like ours!  The appreciation and respect our students have for new culture is really special and something that we in Kowai are hugely proud of. Fa'afetai lava to everyone involved who made this a week for our children to remember!
