Awesome opportunities at Amberley School!

As we hit the halfway mark in Term 3, we reflect on all the fabulous learning experiences our students have had so far this term

This photo shows Margaret (Reading Recovery teacher and chef extraordinaire!) working with a group of children to make some fresh, nutritious vegetable soup. The children were surprised how much they enjoyed it! It's amazing how children are more likely to eat food if they have been part of preparing it. Have you noticed this at home too? Our children are becoming great cooks - the Moana food technology programme enables our children to learn to cook a variety of meals and snacks. I was privileged to test out four different Nacho recipes on Friday!

How you can support Amberley School

We are working hard to support your children. We have a fabulous team that oversees fundraising for big ticket items for our kura (digital devices, camp subsidies, etc). You can help them by registering for the Amberley Rellie Challenge (coming soon!) and supporting the Rock n Wheels event coming up on Father's Day (our seniors are supporting this as a fundraiser for their William Pike Challenge). Plus we have our historical calendar coming up again late this year. Please spread the word far and wide about these fundraising initiatives and help promote the great work our parent volunteers do to make this school a better place for our children!

Reporting on HERO

Many of our classes use Seesaw for realtime sharing of what is happening in the classroom. We use HERO school wide and you can expect more assessment information to be shared towards the end of the term. A reminder to make contact with Simon or Katrina if you have had trouble getting your device to connect. This is important as all our means of communication will eventually be through this digital platform.

Teacher Only Day coming up

We are sneaking into September next week, the year is flying along very quickly. Please remember that Monday 14th September is a teacher only day - this could be a great opportunity to take a long weekend with your family. Our teachers and support staff are spending the day with the Ministry of Education - learning about how to safely manage extreme student behaviour. Sadly this has become a necessary part of our job.

Reminder - Amberley Fitness Centre - special deal

A reminder from last week's newsletter that the Sports Trust is working with Amberley School to help us fundraise. If you join the fitness centre as a member, 20% of your membership fees go to our school to support the purchase of sports equipment. What a deal!

Further details below, but if you've never had a look at the Amberley Fitness Centre before - pop your head in the door and say hi to the friendly team. It's such a great resource in our town and they are very supportive of our school.

Thanks for your ongoing support

Simon
