Brazilian Journalists Visit to Amesbury School

John Murrihy —

On Thursday 13 June, we were privileged to have two journalists from Brazil visiting Amesbury School.

Our school was chosen as we have been recognised as being a progressive and future focused school, and visitors have appreciated the way we show manaakitanga (hospitality, generosity and care of others).

The journalists, Beth Koike and Eduardo Graca write for two influential publications and are researching ‘future focussed’ education and saw Amesbury School as a perfect fit for the purpose of their trip. Lucy and Amro from Education New Zealand facilitated and participated in the visit.

During the morning they participated in a mihi whakatau, a presentation of Amesbury School’s educational vision, a school tour, and interviews. A highlight of the event was when the journalists interviewed our parents and students from Brazil. They were observed animatedly and positively discussing their experiences in NZ in Portuguese.

Thanks to our students Marina & Melina, and their parents Mauro & Maria taking part in this event.
