Student reports are now live on HERO

Urs Cunningham —

Through the year we report on student progress in different ways. Throughout each term you will see learning posts sent out about different aspects of learning your child has done or been involved with. This links with the goals and dials on Hero which turn green as goals are achieved.

In Term 1 we held student conferences, to talk through aspects of your child's progress, and now in Term 3 there are written reports to go along with this.

Reports comments are added to the '2024 Report' page on HERO. This is the main learning page you have for your tamariki on HERO, which shows the large green dials for each main learning area. Underneath all of the dial diagrams, you will find your child's end of year report comment. Ākonga (students) have been shown their report at school today (Wednesday), and now they have been made live for parents and whānau to view.

Please note that for Rupert's whānau group, reports will go out in week 2 next term.

Each report comment includes the following:

  • A whānau teacher comment, which has been written by your child's whānau teacher. This includes a general overview of your child's learning and behaviour for the past three terms

  • An ākonga comment which has been written by your tamariki. This may include information about what they like doing at school, how they interact with their friends and peers, and particular events or aspects of note so far this year

  • An explanation of what the hub has been focusing on in communication arts (inquiry, reading, writing, oral language) and maths

Where to find the report comment

Log into your HERO account and click on the photo of your child. This will take you directly to their main '2024 Report' page. This page will show you your child's achievement in reading, writing, journey of growth and development (social and emotional development), and maths. Under the maths information you will find their 2024 report comment. Please click on 'read more' to view the whole report.

Please note that at the very bottom of your tamariki's report page, you can find their attendance information for each term this year. This will be shown in two large dials, one for each term. The darker green section shows the percentage of time at school, the light green shows the number of late days recorded, red shows the percentage of time away for an unjustified reason, and orange shows time away for a justified reason (such as sickness, bereavement, or other educational endeavours). You can hover your cursor over each section to see information about the number of half days in each section.

There is also a data grid underneath the dials, showing your child's key attendance data for both terms, and a summary line showing YTD (overall data for the year to date). For the overall attendance percentage, the Ministry attendance guidelines are as follows:

90 - 100% attendance = regular attendance. 80 - 90% attendance = irregular attendance. 70 - 80% attendance = moderate absence. Below 70% attendance = chronic absence.

How to find out information about your child's goals and evidence of learning

This document shows a few handy tips and tricks about how to access additional information about the specific goals your child is working on, and how to see the learning they are uploading.

If you have any trouble finding or viewing your child's report comment, or if you have any questions regarding the information, please don't hesitate to contact your child's whānau teacher.

Ngā mihi,

The Amesbury team
