Beach Education - What you need to know.

Eilis Cassidy —

Week 9 and 10 will see our ākonga participate in the Surf Life Saving programme. This article contains all you need to know about the trip.

Dates and year group:

  • Year 0 + 1 Monday 4th December, Lyall Bay
  • Year 2 Tuesday 5th December, Lyall Bay
  • Year 3 Wednesday 6th December, Lyall Bay
  • Year 4 Thursday 7th December, Lyall Bay
  • Year 5 Monday 11th December, Worser Bay
  • Year 6 Tuesday 12th December, Worser Bay

Tamariki should arrive at school from 8:30 am on the morning of their trip. Buses will leave Amesbury promptly at 8:45 am before travelling across town. The programme will be broken into three sections:

  • theory (completed in the club house)
  • beach activities; and
  • water activities

We expect to start at 9:30 am and finish at 2:30pm. Tamariki will return to school for 3pm each day but please allow 10/15 minutes for potential traffic disruptions.

What to pack for Beach Ed?

The beach is an ever changing environment so you will need to pack for all seasons:

  • Towel x 2, togs, wetsuit (if you have one)
  • warm clothes & sun hat
  • Lunch & drink
  • sun screen (factor 30+)

It is uncommon for the programme to get cancelled due to the weather so do expect the trip to go ahead. The cost of $25 has been loaded onto Kindo and we would appreciate payment at your first convenience. If you have any further questions please contact your child's whānau teacher.

We desperately need a further two parent volunteers for the Year 6 day on Tuesday 12th December. If you are available to come to Worser Bay between 12:15 and 2:30pm please let Eilís know on eilis@amesbury.school.nz as soon as possible.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable day at the beach.

Kind regards,

Eilís
