Shaking hands with Churtonleigh Hospital.
At the start of Term 2, we began an exciting new journey to connect with the wider community. Our first stop was Churtonleigh Hospital, a nearby rest home. This visit was the beginning of an adventure full of excitement and purpose.
With careful planning and enthusiasm, our tamariki (children) prepared fun activities to share with the residents. Guided by Kirat, we stepped into the welcoming Churtonleigh community.
We planned our time with joy and warmth, engaging in various activities. These included reading storybooks, singing songs, performing a play, teaching painting and origami, playing snakes and ladders, and even holding a paper plane flying competition. Every activity was filled with creativity and teamwork. The residents enjoyed it and looked forward to seeing us every week.
Meeting residents who had lived for nearly a century was truly inspiring. Their wisdom and life stories deeply touched us and left a lasting impression.
During our visit, we felt the residents’ kindness and respect. They listened attentively, shared encouraging words, and invited us to come back again. This made us feel grateful and motivated to continue building these connections.
Our visit to Churtonleigh Hospital reminded us of the importance of human connection and how special shared experiences can be. It wasn’t just a visit – it was a meaningful encounter that impacted both the residents and us. We look forward to visiting again.
