Senior Swimming Sports

Rupert Webb —

Options for the Senior Swimming Sports 2024 will be made available to the students, at school, early next week.

Our Senior Swimming Sports event is taking place on Tuesday 3rd September at Tawa Pool. Every ākonga (student) will travel to the pool for this Hub event. There is no Northern Zones Swimming event to qualify for, so our event will be a little different to other years.

On Monday next week, students from Y4-6 will complete a google form to indicate which events they want to participate in. We ask for all parents and ākonga to talk through the options below bearing in mind your child's confidence levels in the water.

Option 1: Competitive races - full length in the main swimming pool. Depth 0.9m to 1.4m

Option 2: Non-competitive races - half lengths of the main swimming pool.

Depth 0.9m to 1.1m

Option 3: Fun activities in the learning pool for non-confident swimmers.

Depth 0.8m to 0.9m

Option 1

Race swim options are:

  • 2 length freestyle

  • 1 length freestyle

  • 1 length backstroke

  • 1 length breaststroke

  • 1 length whānau relay

Option 2

Swim options are:

  • 1/2 length freestyle

  • 1/2 length backstroke

  • 1/2 length whānau relay

Option 3:

Fun activities - The learning pool is available for developing swimmers who are more confident in a smaller, more shallow pool.

Students who participate in any of the options will earn one point towards their whānau games total. There are bonus points on offer for support and encouragement. Races will only take place if there are enough participants registered.

Amesbury expects all students to participate unless they are injured or ill.

Feel free to contact your child's whānau teacher if you have any questions or email rupert@amesbury.school.nz

Ngā mihi
