Year 5 and 6 Mathswell Maths Competition

Urs Cunningham —

Mathswell is an annual competition run by the Wellington Maths Association. Students from year 5 to year 13 are invited to participate in teams of 6. Mathswell aims to promote the enjoyment of Mathematics and challenge our students.

The competition will take place at The Hub in Victoria University, on Tuesday 19th August. Each school is allowed to enter one team of six ākonga (students). As entry numbers are limited, we will form our team using the following criteria: PAT maths results; HERO goal achievement and workshop participation; ability to work under pressure and at speed; collaboration and ability to work as part of a group. These criteria have particular weighting to ensure that we are sending a team who are well set up for the rigorous competition.

Further information about the competition can be found here. The cost of entry per child will be $9 ($24 entry fee per team, plus a $30 membership fee for the school).

Last year our Amesbury team placed third overall in the competition - we were very proud of them! We are very excited to see how our team goes this year. If you would like to sign up your year 5 or year 6 tamariki for the Mathswell competition, please email me at urs.cunningham@amesbury.school.nz.

Deadline for entries is Monday June 16th at 3pm. In your email, please include the following information:

  • Name and year level of your child

  • Where you can provide transport for your child and any other tamariki to and from the competition

  • Whether you are able to stay with the team throughout the day

Ngā mihi
