Speech Competition 2025!
We are excited to hold the Amesbury School Speech Competition for 2025!
This is a wonderful opportunity for students of all ages to try something new and create and present a speech on a topic they are interested in. It is open to students of all ages.
This year, we have made some exciting changes! After students' request, we have also opened a duet division - where two students can deliver a speech together. The speech will need to be on one topic, and both students will need to talk (not at the same time). The timings are the same as the solo division.
The speech time limits are:
Year 0 - between 30 seconds and 1 minute
Year 1-2 - between 1 minute and 2 minutes
Year 3-4 - between 1min 30sec and 2min 30sec
Year 5-6 - between 2min 30sec and 3min 30sec
Students must sign up for the competition by Friday 8th of August.
Heats will take place in Weeks 6 and 7 (18th - 29th of August 2025). These will be judged by hub teachers, and each age group (Y0, Y1-2, Y3-4, and Y5-6) will send their three top students to the final.
Due to the new duet division and the number of speeches, we have decided to split the finals into Koru Hub and Pōhutukawa hub. Both finals will be in week 9.
Koru Hub will be on Thursday, the 11th of September
Pōhutukawa will be on Friday, the 12th of September
At the final, judges will be looking for speeches with excellent structure, strong voices, and audience engagement.
For any questions, please email Hannah at hannah@amesbury.school.nz. We are excited to hear all the amazing speeches our students will deliver!
Best of luck to all participants!
