Koru Hub Term Two!

Davina de Witts —

It’s hard to believe we are at the end of term two. What a fantastic year it has been so far!

In Koru Hub our term two inquiry started with an exploration of Ngā Atua Māori. We retold the story of Rangi and Papa and learned about the strengths of each atua and the responsibilities each atua has over the natural world. We became very curious about natural phenomena and we wanted to understand what causes natural disasters to happen, and what we can do to keep safe.

Each week we explored a different natural disaster. In the morning, different provocations and hands-on activities that relate to the topic of the week were set out. When we explored floods, we caused river levels to rise and overflow. The following week, we made a cyclone in a bottle. Earthquakes was our favourite to explore because we made models of tectonic plates and played with how they move.

To share our learning, we kept journals. Each day we added a new entry based on what we had explored. For those that were able to attend the learning celebration we enjoyed you reading our journals.
