Running events coming up

Rupert Webb —

Our tamariki can look forward to exciting events in Term 2.

Best Day Ever…

1. New for this year, we’re having a Fun Run.

Level Up

2. School Cross Country - 7 May

Extreme Attitude

3. Are you tough enough to take on the Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge? - 21 May

More information:

1. Fun Run - Amesbury School event for years 1 to 6. Details coming soon.

2. School Cross Country

The races will take place on Tuesday 7 May (Week 2, Term 2) and whānau are welcome to come along and support our athletes. The distances are as follows:

  • Y1-2 = 1 lap approx. 500m

  • Y3-4 = 2 laps approx. 1000m

  • Y5-6 = 3 laps approx. 1500m

Order of races

First, Year 6 Girls, then Year 6 Boys, Year 5 Girls, Year 5 Boys,

Year 4 Girls, Year 4 Boys, Year 3 Girls, Year 3 Boys

Year 2 Girls, Year 2 Boys, Year 0 & 1 Girls, and finally Year 0 & 1 Boys.

Tamariki need to have suitable footwear and a change of clothes to change into afterwards. It is likely that the race course will be wet and muddy so we ask for dry, clean clothes for afterwards.

Traditionally a winter sport, please know that the Cross Country event will go ahead even if it's wet underfoot. If there is an extreme weather forecast for 7 May the postponement date of Thursday 9 May will be used instead.

If you would like to help and marshal on the track please let me know via email at rupert@amesbury.school.nz.

The top five boys and top five girls from each year group progress to either the Yr 4-6 Northern Zone Cross Country event on 14 May, or the Yr 1-3 Junior Invitational event on 23 May.

The change for this year is that the cross country is optional, with the alternative being the fun run. Cross country runners can do both events.

3. Junior Tough Guy and Gal Challenge - see the separate article for information and to sign up.
