Senior Athletics 2023
A huge congratulations to the Amesbury athletes who showcased their talent and skills at Nairnville Park on Tuesday.
Our tamariki had a fantastic day at senior athletics despite the cooler temperatures and chilling winds. Over 190 kids filed on to the buses at school and made the short trip to Khandalladh. After a quick snack, the tamariki were excited to make a start on the event rotations.
There was much anticipation for all the events but the sprints were definitely a crowd favourite! The sprinters pushed themselves all the way to the finish line in a bid to claim the top spot.
The two jumping events were highly competitive with the tamariki battling it out for a qualification spot at the Northern Zones on October 30th. The quoits and vortex had an extra layer of challenge given the weather conditions but the students still gave it their all. The training and practising stood them in good stead on the day.
The grey skies eventually led to rain towards the end of the day but there were a record number of athletes who fancied doing the enduring 800m race to finish off.
All in all there were many satisfied, yet tired, students on their return to Amesbury Drive. Photos from the day can be viewed here.
It's a very quick turnaround for those who qualified for the next stage at Newtown Park. We wish the athletes representing our kura the best of luck on Monday in all events!
Finally, Amesbury are responsible for officiating the girls long jump at the Northern Zone event. Three adults are required for this and we would greatly appreciate your help. Please let Eilís (eilis@amesbury.school.nz) know if you are available on Monday between 9:15 and 1:45pm. The programme of events can be found here.
