Harakeke Hub in Term 1
We have had a wonderfully busy term here in Harakeke Hub. In this article you will read about what we have been exploring, playing, and learning about.
This term our inquiry has been about 'Living as my best self' Ahakoa he iti he pounamu/Despite being small, you are of great value. Through our inquiry topic we have made lots of links to all areas of our curriculum.
One area we explored, through our inquiry, was in mathematics. We have been focusing on using different strategies to solve problems. The problems that students have been working on have been based around our inquiry topic.
Ākonga (students) opted into different groups where they felt their level of learning was. After a couple of weeks, kaiako shifted students to encourage challenging their knowledge.
Ākonga (students) have learnt how to use place value, rounding and compensating, reversability and some even practised using equal adjustment. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students explore these strategies and show how to use them with mathematical problems.
We are looking forward to continuing to explore strategies throughout the year and seeing everyone use these in a variety of different ways.
Have a wonderful break and we can't wait to see you next term!
