Cultural Festival at Amesbury

Regina Singh —

You and your family are warmly invited to join us for our Amesbury School cultural festival. This will take place at Amesbury School on Friday 27 November from 5:00pm-7:00pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

In our inquiry this term, we have been exploring artworks (music, dance, drama, visual arts) from around the world. Students have thoroughly enjoyed this inquiry and are looking forward to creating their own cultural artworks to showcase at our learning celebration as well as our cultural festival.

For the cultural festival, we have a full programme planned that will celebrate a number of different cultures from around the world. There will be:

  • Cultural performances
  • Henna and tā moko painting
  • Kung fu demonstrations
  • Chinese painting and calligraphy
  • Students' artworks
  • Food from around the world
  • Our annual Scholastic Book Fair

We will also have a fundraising stall that a group of students have worked hard to put together this term. The group of girls leading the project are very keen to raise money for the Cancer Society. As part of the fundraising, one of our brave teachers, Gar Kee, will have her incredibly long hair cut very short for the Cancer Society. From what we understand, it will be a mixture of cutting and shaving. If you are interested in donating to the Cancer Society, please click on this link.

To help us represent the various cultures at Amesbury School, we would like to invite you (students and adults) to share something from your culture. It could be a cultural performance, a demonstration, traditional clothing or kai (food) to share. If you are keen to provide any of the above, please email Regina (regina@amesbury.school.nz) by Sunday 15 November. This will help us to finalise the programme and ensure we are ready for the festival.
