School photo gallery closes Monday 2 August

Full details have been sent out in separate posts via Hero, together with access codes. 

This is a final reminder as the school photo gallery closes at midnight on 2 August.

Senior School Swimming Sports - Tuesday 3 August

The Year 4-6 Swimming Sports will be held at Karori Pool on Tuesday 3 August.

Races start at 10am and we will head back to school by 1:30pm. If you are coming along to watch and support, please do so by 10am as the races will happen quickly.

Michelle sent out a Hero post, on 26 July, to all Y4-6 parents with all of the details so please refer to that and if you have any other questions contact Michelle michelle@amesbury.school.nz.

Construction starting on our new hub building

In case you have missed the latest information about the new hub build - here it is.

Boxes for Electives Needed

Electives start on Monday (2 August) and we are desperately short of boxes

We will be needing lots of cardboard boxes in all sizes and shapes (big brown/moving boxes, cereal boxes, tissues boxes, shoe boxes...). 

We also could used lids from milk and juice bottles and yoghurt containers; basically anything the kids can turn into an amazing creation.

I know it's a bit short notice but anything we can get our hands on will be great.

Any contributions you have please either drop them off to Gina, in Koru Hub, or at the office.

Scholastic Book Club

The next selection from the Scholastic Book Club will be available Monday (2 August) with the tamariki bringing home a copy of the catalogue.

Kelly Sports - Term 3 - Starts Friday (6 August)

Play like a Sports Hero - Term 3 (Y0-4) - Fridays 3.05-4.05pm - starts Friday 6 August

Kelly Sports will be back in Term 3 Week 2 with their fun and exciting classes.

This term we will focus on the following sports: Football, Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee and Dodgeball!

This weekly programme gives children the skills and confidence in a fun and enjoyable environment. It also encourages their enthusiasm for sport and the life skills that such involvement brings – giving them confidence to join sports clubs and teams in the future. It’s a great way to try new sports, learn new skills and improve ability.!

ComicFest 2021

On the Saturday the 21st of August, Wellington City Libraries is partnering with the National Library of New Zealand to put on ComicFest 2021, the country’s largest celebration of home-grown comics and their creators. We have the biggest names in NZ’s comic and graphic industry, including Kay O’Neill (The Tea Dragon Chronicles), Jonathan King (The Inkberg Enigma) and Selina Tusitala Marsh (Mophead) joining us for workshops, talks, presentations, meet-and-greets, book signings, panel discussions, live drawing, and more. As well as all of these exciting events, there is a drawing competition, a cosplay competition, both with heaps of awesome prizes up for grabs, and literally thousands of free comics to give away, courtesy of Graphic on Cuba St. If you have even a passing interest in comic books or graphic novels of all shapes and sizes, you won’t want to miss this celebration of creativity and passion – check out the full details at www.wcl.govt.nz/comicfest.

Aikido for Juniors

Aikido is a martial art with a difference. Its focus being on defence rather than attack: a non-violent, defensive art. Aikido is renowned for its benefits for self-control, co-ordination and posture, and like all martial arts promotes confidence and provides fun, fitness and friendship. 

 We are seeking more juniors students: being very Covid cautious we stopped training during last year’s restrictions, and are seeking to build up our lively classes again. 

 We are a not-for-profit organisation teaching the art of aikido, based in Kaiwharawhara, in our 27th year. 

Classes Monday (Kids, around 6+ to 12 years) and Wednesday (Teens) 5:30pm during school terms, $80 per term. City Dojo, 132 Hutt Rd, Kaiwharawhara, Wellington, directly above Animates pet shop. Turn up and give it a try - first 3 lessons free. And parents, we have beginner classes at 6:30pm for you too.
