Congratulations to our Athletes

John Murrihy —

We had 7 tamariki competing in the InterZone Athletics - and 4 qualified for the Regional Champs

A huge congratulations and well done to the seven Amesbury students who competed in the Inter Zone Athletics Meet on Tuesday 29th November at Newtown Park.

Miharo Jade, Mira, and Paige from Year 4. Sofia and Jiya from Year 5. From year 6 Abigail and Kingsley. It has been a fantastic effort to even qualify for the InterZone Athletics Championships and we are immensely proud of your achievements and for representing our kura with such dignity.

Delightfully, Amesbury had four students qualify for the Regional Meet in Masterton this Tuesday. It is a huge achievement to get this far and each student should be thrilled with their individual performances. Below is a list of the ākonga and what events they had qualified in, together with a particular mention for those with top 4 placings:

  • Abigail: Qualified in 80m, 150m sprints and 800m.
  • Jade: Qualified 100m sprint, quoits (1st), vortex (3rd) and long jump (4th).
  • Sofia: 3rd in high jump.
  • Jiya: 2nd in quoits.

Our warmest Amesbury wishes to Jade and Jiya who have elected to compete on Tuesday in Masterton. Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui - Be strong, be brave, be steadfast.
