Monitoring Digital Activity at Amesbury School
This article describes the ways in which we monitor digital activity in order to keep students safe while learning.
At Amesbury School we want to create a safe environment for students to access the web and use various ICT devices appropriately. As a result we have a number of procedures in place:
Amesbury School has a managed network through Network 4 Learning. This includes web filtering and online security through a customised firewall.
The school can access and monitor all emails and files (Drive) connected to a student’s Amesbury account.
Teachers use Hapara Dashboard, which allows them to monitor children on the internet and ensure all usage and programs are relevant to student learning. This tool allows teachers to see a student's current activity - we can see all of their current screens, tabs, and what they have been on. This tool is only active during school hours. If a home learning situation occurs, this time frame may be extended and parents will be notified of this.
We also use Securly, an extension tool to track and provide detailed information about students’ internet usage while logged on to their Chromebook or Chrome browser with their Amesbury School account.
We highly recommended your child does not log into a browser with their school account on a shared computer at home (or logs out afterwards) to ensure your privacy. If a home learning situation occurs, the school Chromebook should only be used for the student’s learning tasks.
All of these actions are taken to ensure that all students are safe and following our school protocols when learning online.
