Amesbury School Digest

The earthquake on Sunday night certainly changed our Monday and probably will impact the rest of the week. However, I would like to take a moment to think of those who were injured, lost their lives, their homes and their livelihoods as a result of this earthquake; but also to think of the many in and around Christchurch who are still suffering from the earthquake of five years ago. For them, the world as they had known it, has changed dramatically. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.

It would also be good to humbly count our blessings. We live in a new suburb with strongly-made houses. Our school is largely one storey and built for movement. We were able to remain open yesterday, while other more earthquake prone schools needed/and are still waiting for reports from engineers.

We have a great, celebratory event to look forward to tomorrow evening.  I hope to see you there - even if the weather is still wet and wild - as we celebrate the launching of our first cookbook; but also as we celebrate the richness of our diverse and multi-cultural community.
