Celebrating our ākonga

Firstly, we would like to say thank you to those who have shared these achievements with us. We are so happy to be able to acknowledge the things that tamariki are able to do outside of school and love sharing these with the community.

Our first set of congratulations goes to Destiny. Destiny began going to lessons in Term 1 to learn Tamil (a South Indian language) and a couple of weekends ago she was recognised for completing level 1. She opened up the event by sharing a short speech in Tamil. She was thrilled to get the certificate from the Mayor

Next, we want to say congratulations to Oliver for  placing 2nd at his Judo competition, which he had a few weeks ago. This was the first competition he has done since Covid from 2020. 

Another congratulations goes to Jiya who was the winner of Wairarapa April Open 2022 : 10 under boys singles, the winner of Tecnifibre Wellington Tier 2 Junior Open: 10 & under boys doubles. Jiya also participated in the 2022 Wellington Short Course Swimming Championship & was declared the best 9 & under men’s swimmer as he won 5 Gold, 3 Silver & 2 Bronze medals. 

Matilda was part of the Scots College Showquest entry this year. The concept was a feminist take on retelling female fairytale characters giving them a voice. Matilda played a young girl going to read the fairytale and watching the story unfold. She was a super champ as the rehearsal and filming went really late for a 7 year old - ka rawe!

Last but not least, Samrta was the player of the day twice and winning her finals with her team from North City Cricket Club. She got her 1st Certificate in Hindi language, and received a certificate in Bollywood dance. She also performed both in Bollywood and Jazz productions and completed her Brownies which leads her on to join guides this year. Samrta has started her vocal lessons too.
