Amesbury School Digest

Here we are at the end of another term that has just flown by. Again, I find myself asking the question wonderingly, "How can we be nearly finished our fourth year as a school? How can we be finished our third term this year? Hasn't the year only just begun?" Well, it seems not.

Teachers have been busy collecting, collating and analysing student achievement data over the last couple of weeks, and, as I write this, learning conferences are well underway. This is a very pressured time for teachers and we really appreciate the effort they put in as they stop and check how well students are achieving and then present that information to parents. Teachers will use this information as they plan the teaching and learning programmes for next term to make sure their programmes are targeted specifically to the needs of students. Though school-wide data has not been collated yet, it seems from what I have heard that a number of students have made great progress this term. I was privileged to teach a few sessions of literacy to a group of students in weeks 7/8. What a stunning group of highly capable students!

It has been great to have Rachel doing some project work for us this term. Currently she is helping to get an International Festival off the ground for November this year. This has been on our calendar all year to link with the Living Globally inquiry we are planning for term 4. Rachel has sent out an article with a link to a form in which she is seeking contacts and offers of help for this. The intention is to hold the festival celebrating our multicultural community from 16- 20 November with a series of activities for kids during school time and adults in the evening and finishing with a festival event (food, entertainment etc.) on Friday evening (20th Nov).

This event is not going to happen without your support. We need ideas and contacts, ethnic food stalls, entertainment. The students will be putting on performances throughout the evening. This has the potential to be a great event, but we really do need your support to make sure it happens. Please go to the article (link below) and fill out the expression of interest form, giving us any ideas you may have and telling us what you can do. Thanks so much.
