Giant Chess Game

Amesbury School purchases giant chess pieces for outside use.

An outdoor chess board was installed as part of the initial school build. We have finally been able to purchase giant chess pieces so that students can play chess as an outdoor activity. We have also purchased a mini set to be played inside on tables. Putting out and packing up the giant chess pieces is quite a big job. However, a wonderful group of senior boys has volunteered to be on a roster to carry out this duty and to supervise the use of the chess board during break times.

We look forward to seeing chess become part of the learning culture at Amesbury School. Please let us know if you are particularly interested in chess and would like to run a chess elective or club or in someway develop students' capability in chess. It would be great see more girls playing chess.

Amesbury School swimming sports

The Amesbury Swimming Sports were held at Tawa Public Pool Tuesday 28th April

The swimming sports were fabulous. It was great to see the number of students who really challenged themselves in the races they entered. Some students who had never swum a length, swam length races and others who had struggled to swim a length previously, swam two this time. We were really proud of all our students and the amazing effort they put in.

A big thanks to those who organised the swimming sports and to all the helpers who contributed to its success.
