Amesbury School

Kia ora koutou,

Ministry of Education Information site for parents and whānau

COVID-19 website

We have now moved back to alert level 1 across most of the country, with Auckland moving to alert level 2. It has been great to see several days with no new community cases. However, as Dr Bloomfield has clearly stated, new cases are still possible and we need to continue to act with caution and do the right thing to keep our community safe.

This document provides information on where you can go to get help, including financial support, as well as details about the different categories of contacts.

As we have now moved back to level 1, this means that parents and whānau are most welcome to come back on site without needing to sign our track and trace registers in hubs. However, please do remember that if you are coming onsite outside of our usual drop off and pick up times, we do still require you to sign in at the office and pick up a visitor tag.

Throughout all levels Amesbury School will still:

- Display QR code posters for the NZ COVID Tracer app

- Keep our VisTab visitor register and attendance register up to date to help with contact tracing if needed

- Be monitoring for illness and asking anyone who is unwell to remain at home, or to go home

- Encourage people with relevant symptoms to seek medical advice through Healthline (0800 358 5453) or their GP and get tested for COVID if recommended to do so

- Reinforce the importance of good hand washing and drying

- Reinforce good cough and sneeze etiquette

- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly

As an additional reminder, we do still have some students presenting with a Norovirus (vomiting and/or diarrhoea bug). Norovirus is very easily spread from person to person, and we do need to be very careful to contain these bugs. Following advice from the Ministry of Health, we require any children with signs of a stomach bug to stay away from school. If a child vomits or has diarrhoea, they must stay away from school for 48 hours after the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. Please follow this link for further information regarding Noroviruses.

Update on the new hub building

We are currently working with our architects and our Ministry Advisory team to go through the final steps of the tender process with building contractors for our new build. Once this process is completed, we will be all systems go for starting the work on our new two storey building at the far end of Harakeke Hub. It is anticipated that the work will take approximately 12 months.

As we get a little closer to the start of the construction process, we will communicate regularly with our school community and our local neighbours about the arrangements for managing construction traffic flow and the safety of students, staff and community onsite throughout construction.

Parent Information / Hero session

This information session has been jiggled around a fair bit due to two changes in alert levels. We are now looking to hold the session as soon as possible, to ensure parents get the information they require. As such, we will be holding this session on Tuesday this week - 9th March.

The session has two sections to it:

4 - 4:30pm = New parent information session. This will be run in two groups, with one group focusing on information with new five year old students (year 1 students), and one group focusing on information for parents of students in years 2-6.

4:30 - 5:15pm = LINC-ED Hero information session for all parents. This will be run in three groups:

- Parents / whānau who are new or less familiar with Amesbury learning programmes and our previous ALF system

- Parents / whānau who are familiar with our learning programmes and ALF

- Parents / whānau who would prefer the information delivered in Mandarin

The information given in all three sessions will essentially be the same, but the kinds of questions asked and the time spent explaining certain aspects may vary from group to group. The session will spend some time going through the different aspects of Hero, showing where to find information, and explaining how Hero can be used by students, parents and teachers. We have left time at the end of the session for parents to ask questions, and for teachers to assist any parents who may need help signing up, accessing information or understanding different features of the system.

Have a wonderful week, and we hope to see many of you at our information session on Tuesday.

Ngā mihi nui,

Urs Cunningham
