School Crossing Safety

We are reminding all students, parents and caregivers  of the need to use our school crossing when crossing over Amesbury Drive. It's the safest way to cross and a great model for all children to see everyone using this place to cross.

We have a school crossing operating every school day from 8:40-9am and 2:55 - 3:15pm. This crossing is operated by two senior students each day, supervised by an adult.  These road patrollers have all been trained by NZ Police personnel; they have a particular safety routine to follow for each crossing, and will prompt you when it is safe to cross.

We would like to encourage all caregivers and adults to remind students to use this crossing, even if it is not the quickest option.  Amesbury Drive can be busy in the morning and there are a number of particularly unsafe crossing spots directly outside school.  Even if students are crossing with an adult, the best way to encourage safe crossing habits is to model them; please use the crossing operated by our road patrollers.

If you have any questions or comments about our road patrollers, or you would like to volunteer to be an adult supervisor on a morning or afternoon slot (we are always looking for new volunteers), please contact Anna Seward (anna@amesbury.school.nz).

Thanks for your support with this.
