Co-curricular Lessons

Our co-curricular lessons for Term 3 commence this week (Wednesday 31 July).

Speech & Drama, and Communications Skills are already full, there is only one spot left in drum classes and a number of the other classes are filling fast.

If you've been thinking about an opportunity for your child(ren) to learn to play an instrument, do gymnastics or develop their communication or speech and drama skills read this article and contact John at communications@amesbury.school.nz. Even if the class is full we can put you on the waiting list.

Lost Property

We've only had one week of the term and we already have un-named lost property in the office. Naming everything that kids bring to school is a great idea.

If your child hasn't brought something home that they should have then drop into see Rachel at the office or email her: office@amesbury.school.nz and she'll let you know if it's there.

Free Home Fire Safety Visit

Fire and Emergency NZ are endeavouring to reduce the incidence and consequences of residential property fires. The approach of the Free Home Fire Safety Visit initiative is to educate families on home fire safety, working smoke alarms and safe meeting places.

Annually Fire and Emergency NZ attend an average of 5226 residential property fires, resulting in 262 injuries and 19 fatalities. The average house can become totally involved in fire within 5 minutes, un-survivable in as little as 3 min and reach temperatures in excess of 1200 degrees Celsius (4 times hotter than the average oven).

In Wellington, we would like make a start by offering Free Home Fire Safety Visits to families with school children and the also the elderly. See the flier below for contact information to set up your Free Home Fire Safety Visit.

Tots to Teens Magazine

The new July/August issue digital magazine is available here: http://issue1906w.totstoteens.co.nz/

In this issue, we ask the question “Is my child entitled or do they understand their rights?”

We also look at education issues for parents – why our children should all learn to code, and how predicting endings and outcomes of stories is an important life skill for children to learn. Help your kids engage both the left and right brain with our 5 simple brain games

We have a lovely story on using horses for children’s therapy for physical and mental well-being. We also look into grommets, one of the most common surgical procedures, and give parents a better understanding of what’s involved.

To help with the consequences of reduced sunlight and close-quartered activity of sick children, we have three delicious lemon recipes, and five ways to supplement your family’s diet to get through winter unscathed. We have plenty of amazing prizes to win, holiday ideas to help entertain the children, and a kids’ fun page to enjoy.
