Amesbury runners qualify for Inter Zone Cross Country 2022

Grenada North Park was the meeting place for this year's Northern Zone Cross Country event in which five of our ākonga (students) qualified for the next stage.

On Tuesday 24th of May, twenty eight of our students made the short trip to the other side of the motorway taking with them perfect running conditions. They joined several other schools from the area totaling over 300 runners in all.

After a thorough warm-up and track briefing our students were ready for action. The Year 4s were the first to set a blistering race pace which was matched by the Year 5 and 6s that followed. We are extremely proud of all our Amesbury ākonga who competed, showing fantastic stamina and determination throughout. It was wonderful to witness you compete in the Amesbury shirt with big smiles on each of your faces. We are extremely proud of how well you represented our kura (school) on the day.

We had eight students finish in the top twenty, five of whom will advance to the next stage, the Inter Zone Cross Country, being held on Tuesday 14th of June at the same venue. We wish Jade (Y4), Sofia, Ignacio & Jiya (Y5) and Abigail (Y6) every success in the next round.

A last word of thanks to the parents who transported our students to and from the venue safely. Your help is much appreciated.

Ngā mihi nui,

Eilís
