Amesbury School

Tēnā koutou,

Tukua kia tū takitahi ngā whetū o te rangi - let each star in the sky shine its own light.

A very warm welcome back to the new school year. I would also like to say a special welcome to new families joining us this year. We are very happy to have you join our school community, and we look forward to connecting with you and your tamariki. I hope you have all had a wonderful summer break with whānau and friends. I spent three lovely weeks on the Gold Coast visiting my family. Lots of pool time and walks on the beach did wonders for recharging my battery. After several years apart, it was also great to spend Christmas with whānau again.

And so now we are back to it. There was lots of preparation happening at school last week - many discussions, lots of lists and diagrams on whiteboards, and much moving of furniture. The team is feeling refreshed and ready to go, and we can’t wait to welcome ākonga and their whānau back to school on Tuesday. The whakatauki (proverb) above beautifully encapsulates the discussions we have been having as a team around our purpose and vision as a school. At Amesbury School we look to ensure every student experiences a humanising education and is able to continually fulfill their potential. This involves truly seeing EVERY student, and ensuring each of them can shine their own light in the sky. We are all energised and ready to work tirelessly to achieve this.

There is an article included in this digest around ways for parents and whānau to get involved with the school this year. It is really important to us that whānau feel invited and welcome to be part of this mahi. There is also an article about our first community gathering - our Meet ‘n’ Greet event on Friday. We look forward to connecting with you all, and working with you throughout the year. Have a great year and let the fun begin!

Ngā mihi nui,

Urs Cunningham
