Beach Education 2021

Every two years Amesbury School looks to complete Beach Education for all ākonga (students) across the school. We run a cyclical safety programme for all students at the end of every year, with first aid safety run by St John's Ambulance in even years, and beach and water safety run by Surf Life Saving in odd years.

Beach Education is completed in conjunction with local Surf Life Saving groups, who run different learning modules for us: a Year 0-2 module, a Year 3-4 module and a Year 5-6 module. 

The day is broken into three main parts: spending some time learning basic beach and water safety, spending some time playing games to consolidate the safety information, and spending some time in the water practising some water safety and gaining confidence in the sea. 

This year we completed our Beach Education at the Worser Bay Surf Life Saving Club. We had a lot of fun and learned some really important water safety skills. We are very grateful to the Surf Life Saving volunteers who spent the day with our various teams; they were informative, patient and lots of fun!

Huge thanks also to the large number of parent and whānau volunteers who came along to help. As the day is water based, we need very low ratios of adults to children - 1 adult per every 5 tamariki on the trip. These really valuable learning opportunities cannot happen without the time and support of our volunteers, and we very much appreciate your help.
