Share and Celebrate Term 1 Week 5

Share and Celebrate Week 5

Urs Cunningham —

With such a positive and engaged start to the year, we have a number of ākonga who were nominated for Share and Celebrate this week.

Our Share & Celebrate events are a time to acknowledge and celebrate ākonga (students) who have been noticed doing something great. This can be for anything from an act of kindness, to great efforts in learning or taking care of the environment. If you have fabulous things your have been doing outside of school that you would like to share and celebrate, please email the details to your child's whānau teacher.

We would also like to congratulate our amazing student leaders who planned and led the celebration - Sofi, Reyaansh, and Annie O-W. You were fabulous leaders and fantastically organised. Well done.

Here are the fabulous people who were celebrated this week:

  • Rena, Evaan, Lily, Xavier: During our Kiwi Hoops basketball session you used your taringa (ears) to follow the red light, green light rules and won! Ka Rawe!

  • Ella H and Benji: Benji's friend fell over on the bike track and was hurt. Benji jumped into action to help them - he grabbed their hat for them, and helped them put their bike away. Ella H was nearby and also noticed an opportunity to help. She paused the game she was playing with her friends to help Benji put the bikes away. It was lovely to see you both being so kind.

  • Oleesha and Lulu: Oleesha and Lulu are new to the school this term. I have noticed you being amazing role models for the rest of Koru Hub, always following our class expectations and connecting them to our wider hub treaty! Keep up the great mahi.

  • Izzy: Last week you helped run our Maths workshops. You did an amazing job helping give out the resources and teaching different maths strategies to the tamariki. I was really impressed with your amazing leadership skills and how you showed kindness and consideration.

  • Bailey P-W: Bailey, your focus and motivation with your learning really impressed me when I was in Pōhutukawa Hub this week. You produced an amazing piece of tessellation art, did some fabulous writing, and worked really hard on your inquiry slides. Ka pai for being such a focused learner.

  • Oliver C: Ka pai for the hard work during maths this week. We have been really impressed by your focus and mahi.

  • Lika: You have been working really hard this term on your writing and maths. You always try your hardest and you are keen to improve. Well done!

  • Lennox: Thank you for sticking around to help Angela solve a baking conundrum after a Garden to Table session. You are curious, confident, caring and kind.

  • Bhavyaa: Thank you for helping our new students settle in and treating everyone in Māwhero with patience and respect.

  • Reyan: Reyan noticed some toys out after lunch. He decided to tidy them up, even though he didn't make the mess. What a lovely tidy Kiwi.

  • Grace, Emmett, Matthias and Nellie: In literacy time you have been working really hard. You have been learning about different sounds and using them in your writing.  You are also using some of the strategies to sound out simple words. Keep up the great mahi.

  • Aiah: We are proud of your work ethic in maths lately. You are  focused and are solving 2 digit subtraction problems. Well done Aiah.

  • Hanz: You have been working so hard in your inquiry mahi and you have shared with the class your family's journey. You really reinforced the message to us not to give up on your passions and your dreams until you achieve them. Ka pai e koe.

  • Angela Ya: You have been an amazing tuakana these past few weeks, we have heard when passing by, you checking in with younger ākonga who are upset, also you continue to show how reliable you are in Pōhutukawa. Keep being awesome!

  • Rohan: You were awesome when you suggested letting the other team get a try at touch rugby practice on Monday. You could see that the other team were younger and not as skilled as your team. Everyone on the field agreed and followed through with it. Rohan, you have a big heart, and I know that it meant a lot to the other coach. You uplifted the other team and helped them get their confidence back. Thank you for being such a caring person.

Mahi tika ana, well done to you all for your fantastic work helping others, challenging yourselves, supporting other learners, being such focused and engaged learning, and showing fabulous leadership. We are so proud of you all.
